FAQS
“Somewhere along the way I had acquired all of the necessary skills and tools I needed and by the final practicum, I felt very at ease with sharing what I had learned with others. I contribute my confidence to these amazing instructors and know that my training has prepared me for whatever lays ahead, both on and off my mat”.
Jessica Mustafa (Florist & Dedicated Yoga Student)
Q1. Is your school registered with the Yoga Alliance?
A. Yes, the Denver Institute of Yoga is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 200 hour level. Graduates, who complete the necessary course work, can submit an application to register with the Yoga Alliance. Our school certifies yoga teachers. The Yoga Alliance registers them.
Q2. What ‘style’ of yoga does your school teach?
A. Our comprehensive program provides instruction in asana, pranayama, meditation, classical theory, cleansing methods, kriyas, hand mudras and more. These practices stem from traditional Hatha & Raja Yoga systems.
A large portion of the program is dedicated to the study of asana through the Ashtanga Vinyasa & Iyengar methods.
Q3. Do I have to attend all of the sessions? What about Uncle Wooly’s Alaskan wedding this December?
A. One distinct advantage of our program is the allotted twenty hours of additional class time, above and beyond the Yoga Alliance requirements. Students are strongly & compassionately encouraged to attend as much of the program as possible.
Q4. I’m uncertain if I really want to teach yoga, is this program for me?
A. People participate for a variety of reasons:
- Strengthen one’s personal practice
- Some are already teaching classes and want to go deeper
- Discover yoga-beyond-asana
- Others want to begin teaching
- All are welcome
We believe that a firm foundation in being a student is the best platform from which to teach. The first eight weeks are dedicated to creating a strong student-foundation. The following six weeks are focused on helping you become a competent, qualified & confident teacher. We learn throughout.
Q5. How much experience do I need to qualify? What are you looking for in a student?
A. Our primary prerequisite is a willingness to learn. Yoga has so much to offer to anyone at any stage of their evolution. As past participants can attest, the program is powerfully transformative. A significant commitment of your time, energy and resources are required to successfully complete the program.
The course is designed to accommodate someone who is working a regular job. We meet mostly on weekends & have major holidays off. It can be done! Have a talk with any significant people in your life and get their blessing, before we start and throughout the program.
We also recommend attending the instructor’s regular classes to acquaint yourself with them and what they have to offer. People who have gotten the most out of the program took this initial step. We recommend being familiar with the basic poses and come with an open mind.
Q6. How much does the program cost and how can I pay for it?
Please see our tuition page for a full list of exclusive discounts and promotions!
A. The cost of this 5 month long 220 hour program is $2,795 and includes tuition, course workbook, discounts on instructor’s classes & books. A $200 nonrefundable deposit is required to secure your space in the program.
The deposit is credited towards the tuition balance. The deposit is to be submitted within ten days of acceptance into the program. Enrollment is limited.
Participants can enroll in our payment plan of five monthly (August through December) installments of $519 each. Payment must be received in the form of post-dated checks, written for the first of each month, by the registration deadline August 1st, 2007. We also accept credit cards (Mastercard & Visa) at an additional $25 fee.
You can also choose to participate in the “Intensive” portion of the program (August 23rd–October 14th). Tuition for the Intensive is $1,695 and is approximately 125 hours long and may also be paid for in three installments ($498 each). A $200 deposit is also required for the Intensive.
Q7. I heard that enrollment is limited, is that true?
A. Enrollment is limited to 20 people. Every participant powerfully influences and contributes to everyone else. Our style is professionally and community oriented.
